Want to start outbound sales? Here are some tips that can help you get started and make the most of your lead generation efforts.

Tips for Outbound Sales

Outbound sales can be one of the most effective ways to grow your business if you understand the dynamics of the method. Essentially, Outbound sales are the process of developing relationships with potential customers who are not already familiar with your products or services through cold calling, emailing, LinkedIn or another direct channel. Outbound sales are a highly applicable method for growth when your business has a high Annual Contract Value (ACV) as the need to create trust and build a relationship becomes more important in convincing a prospect to make a purchase. With that in mind, here are a few tips to help you get started with outbound sales:

1. Develop your ICP: Outbound sales are all about developing relationships with potential customers, so it's important to take the time to learn about your target market. What are their pain points? What are their needs and wants? The more you know about your target market, the better equipped you'll be to develop meaningful relationships with them. We recommend making the ICP as applicable as possible, like deciding upon industries, company size, decision-makers, (…), to ease the market segmentation process.

2. Build a strong sales script with Pitchbound: A strong sales script can be the deciding factor between a successful outbound sales call and a complete flop. However, instead of creating a static sales script in Word, make a dynamic script that empowers you to have structure but still make room for creativity and talent. We built Pitchbound to do exactly that.

3. Be prepared to answer objections: No matter how good your sales pitch is, there's always a chance that potential customers will have objections. Be prepared to answer them in a way that puts their minds at ease and helps them see the value in what you're offering. A good tip here is to acknowledge their objection, ask a follow-up questions and switch to a new value proposition.

4. Develop a sales mindset: Outbound sales require discipline, structure, and optimism as you will be faced with many uninterested prospects. Outbound sales take time, so you shouldn’t expect immediate results. Instead, have a growth mindset where every not-interested lead is an opportunity to change your approach or your offering and continuously test out new hypotheses!

5. Find the right tools: There are many different software platforms and tools available to help with outbound sales programs. Do some research to find the ones that best fit your needs and budget. We recommend starting out with a basic CRM, sales activation, and a dialler tool, you don’t need anything else. Here, HubSpot & Pitchbound can be used for free and Aircall is a good option for a cheap dialler that works and integrates with HubSpot to improve your tracking.
